Hi I installed Ubuntu via wubi.

it partitioned the drive - how do i delete the windows partition and just have ubuntu there.

I dont want to burn an iso - older cds not working either.

    Thanks.

wubi installs ubuntu on the windows partition afaik, (you can uninstall it via windows control panel/ add/remove programs) so you kinda went backwards for what you want to do,
if you can get to burn ubuntu to disc, just install by itself from the boot, and pick "use entire disc" this will overwrite everything

Just one thing to think about of you do is to make sure you have the windows installation discs. i think most warantees explicitly state that it is only valid for Windows. So if something happens to the PC you *may* want to make it look like you were using windows.

cheers, both of ye. One more question tho.

Oh this computer came with windows 95 or maybe 98 on it originaly, it is at least 10 years old i wont be taking it back :)

Can wubi or something that i dont have to burn a disk be used to install ubuntu onto the whole drive???

TBH running bog standard ubuntu on a pc that old is just asking for trouble.

There is Xfce and Lxde versions of ubuntu but there not really that much lighter.

Whats the specs of the Pc and then we can recomend a distro that will run smoother.....

As others mentioned, Wubi doesn't create a partition. It put the Ubuntu files into a big file in your Windows filesystem

    c:\ubuntu\disks\root.disk

and replaces the Windows bootloader with the grub bootloader.

You say CDs don't work, how about install from USB?

Also, you need a lighter distro that needs less memory, Ubuntu with lxde would be better, it's called Lubuntu.

    Or Jubuntu.

I hear it tries to do everything the least expensive way possible.

it currently runs windows xp - slowly by most standards but its useable.

so ubuntu should be grand just without the bells and whistles.

Cds work - but i dont have anymore and i dont have anymore time or money to buy or burn them and canonical or whoever is not shipping cds for the time being.

Can i boot it and install it off an ipod hd?

cheers - but id prefer not to give out my address even in a pm.

is it possible to install from the ipod drive?

No problem, as you have an old computer I can only asume the bios wouldnt support usb booting,
I don't think using iPods hard drive would work either if it did

I think a network install is your only option in that case, but it does require having access to another computer.
