    Hi all,

Ive only ever drank coffee from my espresso machine and Frenchpress so after seeing alot about the Chemex latley Im thinking of buying this Chemex from Hasbeans.

Can anyone help answer some of the questions I have:
    • Is there be much of a difference between the frenchpress and the Chemex?
    • Is there anywhere local to buy a Chemex and filters (Dublin) ?
    • Is this a reasonable price from Hasbeans?
    • Is it hard to master an is a scales neccessay ? (people will think Im making an dealing drugs lol)

    Thanks in advance :)

    1) There is a big difference between Chemex and FP. Chemex is a filter and so there are next to no solids found in the cup. This makes it a lot more like tea rather than typical coffee. It is also said that some of the more subtle flavours can be tasted due to the brewing process.

    2) Have you looked at www.coffeeangel.ie ?

    3) Hasbean (not hasbeans ;) ) prices are great and their customer service is what other companies should model themselves on. (coffeeangel can be touted in a similar fashion too). Long live twitter.

    4) I wouldn't say it's hard to master, it all depends on how much practise you are willing to do. and Yes, as with most things coffee, scales are crucial. It's all about elimating your variables, so your weights are important.

Honestly its no harder to master than mastering a french press in terms of dosage, grind size, steep time, etc. I do have to admit that my Hario's get a lot more usage these days and you might want to research them also (check out coffeeangel).

Agreed, the Chemex is nice, but the Hario V60 is alot easier to setup and clean.
After using my V60 in work for the last few weeks, i've purchased another for at home to use instead of my Chemex. Still its nice to have alternatives.

The Intelli vid on the bottom was enjoyable too. I'm another fan of the Hario, so quick and handy for a pour-over.

Must get the chemex out from the back of the press at the weekend.
