No such thing as a top 3 of all time.

If there was Pac an big wouldn't be anywhere ****ing near it though, it's insane how over rated people get just because they get shot.

Cool. I love these lists. Mine would go something like this:

    1. 2 Pac
    2. 2 Pac
    3. 2 Pac

Me own would have to roll something along the lines of this:

    1 - Rakim
    2 - Big Daddy Kane
    3 - Big L

Can't really do a top 3, but if I was making a top 5/10, 3 emcees that I'd always list are:

    Kool G Rap
    Pharoahe Monch
    Ghostface Killah

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 348 ✭✭holy guacamole

    1. Notorious BIG

    2. KRS One

    3. Common ( with the exception of his last abomination of an album I hasten to add )

A very big +1 on that mate.

I really really love hip-hop, maybe alot more abstract stuff but i still listen to and keep up with the likes of Jay-Z, Big and the more mainstream stuff and i can appreciate what they do. But for me 2pac is the very bad tacky stuff, I wouldn't even say he's the best of a bad bunch.

I'm sick of seeing new top 5 lists and the likes here.

Lol explain why 2Pac is over rated? We're not talking about Eazy-E here.
He may not have been the best lyricist technically but he was the best artist none the less.
You can feel his emotions throughout ever song (100's of them), his message meant something (as opposed to other rappers who rap about nothing).

And it's not because he got shot, Me Against the World had gone double platinum at the time and All Eyez On Me had sold more than 5 million.

He matured and improved as an artist throughout every album he released, and since his death the posthumous material released is still on a higher level than most of today's rappers.

2Pac just adlibed every word of his raps so idiots say he had really raw emotional delivery. I just find it irritating. His posthumous material has mostly been utter ****e. When he was alive he took little interest in his music anyway. He'd just rap a load of stuff in AB, let them throw a beat on it later. The stuff he wrote about wasn't really him either. He just cashed in on the whole gangster thing. If he'd actually been an intimidating person in real life he probably wouldn't have got shot.

He cashed in on it? Sorry sir, no offence, but you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

The stuff he wrote wasn't about him, oh yes? Oh he never got into any trouble? Hmm.
Shooting the off duty police officers, forget that?
Attacking another rapper with a baseball bat, that one too?
How about the fight with the Hughes Brothers for which he spent 15 days in jail?
What about the fight with the Limo driver in 1993?

Sorry, but saying that the Gangster thing wasn't about him is just being plain ignorant to the facts.

Oh, on the adlibing bit, listen to the recording session of Letz Fight. You can hear him laying down the different layers, and yes, the energy is brilliant on every layer, before they're overlapped.

The posthumous material has been destroyed by his mother, but that's a different story altogether

    1-Biggie smalls
    2-Big L
    3-Nas

    1 – Biggie
    2 – Jay-Z
    3 – Big L / Big Pun

A lot of other rappers I like and listen to a lot for the past 13 or so years, DMX, Mase (preferred his pre minister days!) Tupac, Busta, Junior Mafia, Beanie Siegel, Common, Nas, tonne of others, Hip Hop was way better in the 90s!!!

I don’t think BIG and tupac are over rated though, happy to get into a discussion on it, im sure theres been tonnes of topics on this site about it though. Im not too happy with Born Again and Duets, I almost always have Ready to Die and Life After Death on, and also Me against The World (Tupac), great album!

A recurring theme is the word BIG in the names of your fav MCs :D

There is one MC now that is really grabbing my attention and constanly moving up in my estimation, the MC in question is Freeway. not quite top 3 material yet, it would mostly be golden era MC's in my top 3. But Freeway is excellent, really commanding voice and presence, good subject matter, and his flow is ridiculous.
One major standout for me was listening to his Freelapse Mixtape, he took all the beats from Em's Relapse and went over them. I though Relapse was a bit pants but when Free wnet over it, it sounded damn good.

He was an actor playing out a part. Nobody who does a video like this is a gangster.

I just think Big L is heavily slept on :) his first album is unreal, plus all his freestyles are great and on point. DITC were good too, have alot of their concerts on cd. Also i think Biggie is just unreal, ive been listening to him since i was like 12, 95 / 96! his songs actually dont get old IMHO. GOAT!!

I like Free, i have to check out that mixtape as i havent heard it yet, last few months i havent been online on my usual hip hop forums as i like to catch up with new stuff!

Freeway is very good alright, another one of Jigga's proteges. That Freelapse Mixtape is excellent but doesn't actually take any beats from Relapse as far as I know, he uses the beats from Em's older albums. It is freely available to download online for anyone that doesn't have it.

Ah yes, using the interview from when he was 17.
That interview is full of intellectual points, like Pac said in many of his interviews there's women and then there is bitches.

I guess Eminem is a full blown racist, too.
