Hi guys, I'm not a regular poster here, so apologies if this was asked before, but has anyone here used the site golfclubs.ie?

Their prices seem too good to be true and i was thinking of getting a set of irons from them, but don't wanna be stung!

    Cheers in advance....

Forget about it mate, there all fake. There used to be a sticky here about too good to be true golf club prices, i would advise you not to buy.

Among people on here golfstoreeurope are the best people to buy off, good service and cheap compared to other rip off irish retailers.

Totally inacurate, the site sells clones, a different matter entirely from the fake club sites. Have never dealt with them but they seem legit, as it is extremely hard to get a .ie domain unless you can prove business registration details, etc....

Yeah clones which are totally ripping off legit brands, waste of time in my book and most others. Look at the Callaway look a like irons for €150 odd, the quality of those clubs in comparsion to the real Callaways is completely different...

Regardless of having an irish domain or not I wouldn't touch those clubs with a barge pole, of course having the irish domain means we would never get ripped off in Ireland would we....

I would still advise the OP to buy off a different site.

I'd stick with Jimjo's advice Minto. Golfstoreeurope is a good site and you know you're getting proper quality clubs.

Minto - I think this really depends upon your level and intent to playing golf in the future.

If you want the best and are prepared to pay for it, the go for GolfStoreEurope. If you are not (yet) an avid golfer then beware of forking out a load of cash that you will never recoup if you decide to give up next year.

Buy a secondhand set of clubs from a golf course pro-shop or McGuirks or online (make sure they are standard - just in case you're buying from someone 7" tall), or buy cheap from a site like the one you mention. These guys are not trying to rip you off - they just offer a cheap alternative.

    Best of luck with it.

wtf? A different name on the clone/fake club to try and stay within the letter of the law. They copy the design almost exactly and just put a different name on them. Stay well clear, much better buying a cheaper actual brand.

Like genuine clubs, there's a difference between a good quality custom/clone and a cheap knock off. And there are good quality custom clubs out there. I don't know if this site is any good, but to say that you're better off buying cheap brand name club than a good custom club is just not accurate.

I had an entire set of custom clubs* for about 4 years. They served me very well. My brother in law is a pro golfer and he thought they were excellent in quality. He absolutely loved my driver (which cost me $100) and used to play a bit with it when we went out.

Yes, I replaced the lot last year, but only because I started taking golf serious.... and I had the money. Really, there was no need.

If the design is copied almost exactly, and they are using the same materials, then why should you stay well clear?? Why is a cheaper "actual" brand better?
If it's a matter of supporting the brands and the cost of R&D then that's fair enough... but a different debate.

    * Driver, 3wood, 5wood, 3i-SW, LW, Putter. $450 (in the glory days before they used to catch you for customs when shipping from states)

**As mentioned, I don't know anything about this site so they could indeed be cheap knock offs made using crap materials. But there are very good quality custom / clone clubs for sale out there. Just do a bit of research.

Let's distinguish between fakes and clones. Your post is not accurate.

Fakes are clubs that look like the real thing - they copy the brand logo etc. These are illegal and the buyer often doesn't know they are fake (other than maybe the price).

Clones may look similar but the brand name is different......buyers should be able to tell the difference. Put them beside the branded one and the difference should be apparent.

Clones are legal clubs - the original brand has a patent and that protects certain aspects of the design. A clone club can come close as long as the patent is not violated.

Clone clubs can be as good as branded ones - they can use the same grips and shafts. The head will possibly be made of similar material and be of similar quality. However as I said the patented parts will be different.

Yes clones rely on looking similar but they do not pretend to be the same.

Is it better to buy a cheaper brand where the costs have to cover advertisement and paying pros to play with the club or to buy a clone which may use better quality components?

That's up to the buyer to choose. But lets be clear - clones are legal and like branded clubs they come in different qualities.

Personally i wouldn't buy something that is sold just on looks alone. MDGolf are a local company and they make good quality clubs that aren't clones.

    Hi there,

Some strong dismissal of cloned clubs here - I got a set of irons and a driver from golfclubs.ie last year and haven't any complaints. It's true I'm just a once-a-fortnight player but I'm getting tighter; the clubs must have something to do with this. I got them delivered without hassle and amn't sure if, without them, I'd have gotten playing given the cost of pricier sets.

    So, worth considering.

I've seen this a few times... the guy is first registered on this site nearly 3 years ago then decides eventually to post... wtf?
That's bad enough but he drags up a zombie thread to let us all know what we might be missing ???
