Commercial Vehicles, why are most dealers so awful ?

right so ive been pricing around for a new isuzu d-max and ive only found 2 dealers im actually willing to buy from , ive had conversations with mates who have bought different vehicles (hyundai santa fe's , ford transit connects) and we all came to the same conclusion , commercial dealers all seem to be all too happy to sell you whats on the forecourt but if you want any kind of extras or a different colour they just fob you off, I thought a dealers job was to sell cars, theyre obviously not interested in the money they make on extras as they just seem to not care when you mention anything above basic spec . Has anyone else found this ? so far out of 6 dealers i went to

2 told me "i dont have it in automatic and wont be ordering one"
1 told me "i cant get the automatics in black"
1 told me "we have an automatic in grey with cloth seats, thats the only spec i will get in for you"

I would imagine that they're getting rebate from the distributors for stock in the country and don't get it on special orders.

poor form not to point out that aftermarket leather would be available.

A lot of isuzu dealers are primarilly truck and machinery places and are used to dealing with a different type of customer.

That said, Monasterevin Motors are usually good.

Go to a normal dealer they won't have stock they are trying to shift and will import what you want.

As for the why I have no idea.

    you mean a non-main dealer?

I bought a Cruiser from Monasterevin Motors and also found them to be very good.
Separatly, I remember buying a new ford courier (from a ford dealer)a few years back, and the attitude was"you can have any spec you like as long as its that red one over there on the forecourt". I think its a bit like going into a shop with only mars bars on the shelf and asking for some chocolate. They try to sell what they have, not really what you want. Did some work down in Avoca business park(the old fert. plant), and it was chocca with parked up new commercials. Those need to get sold, so you probably get offered what is sitting in stock.

Any isuzu dealers I know sell commercials as Isuzu's entire range is commercial. Maybe one that has another franchise as well might be an option - can't think of any Isuzu dealers that also sell cars off the top of my head, maybe Limerick Motor Centre but I found them woeful to deal with.

I would agree that this is whats going on. Perhaps there is an effective ban too on new factory orders until the stock is gone cause surely if it was a choice between no sale & a factory order, they would order one even though the margin would be much tighter.
Simple solution is to tell them you will only buy the spec you want & walk away.

Thats usually the problem. When you need another commercial, you usually need it in a hurry, so you are inclined to take the next best thing to what it is exactly you want, just to get the job moving. So, walking away is often not an option.

Get them to break down the costs for each part of the spec. Vehicle will probably come from the factory relatively standard and a lot of the bits (leather, Sat Nav radio, side steps) will be fitted when the vehicle arrives. The dealer will always stick a margin on these bits, so it may be cheaper to source them yourself, especially if you know anyone with contacts for doing that sort of thing ;)

What model are you ordering? I might be ordering a D-Max for a customer next week. Probably a Red 2.5 as there are a load in stock and my god it's cheap! While I'm on, I could see if they would order what you are looking for, what cost and how long.

A truck I was driving broke down near Monasterevin motors and they went out of their way to help us. Very nice people. Put us in touch with a garage in portlaoise(cant remember who) and we were back on the road in a few hours.
