Traveling With My Ukulele

Hello! I hope you can help me!

In June I am traveling to the UK with my concert ukulele (measuring about 23"/58 cm in length excluding the case) and I'm wondering what the rules are with regards to taking it on a plane.

I heard that Aer Lingus will allow you to travel with a small instrument on the flight in addition to your carry-on (the example I was given was "you can take a fiddle, but not a double bass") but I'm scared that I might be caught out and have to pay unexpected charges or maybe even not take it at all.

Has anyone else had this problem? Would it be better to ask your music forum?

    Thank you in advance!

ask the nice folks over here: www.ukeireland.com

I'm sure someone has travelled with one, with Ryanair I took my Concert Uke as hand luggage and stowed a bag with my Banjolele in it (in a case).

Aer Lingus shouldn't give you problems. I've seen people go on the plane with a fiddle and a bag in the past :)

if you were going Ryanair, it would be a different story. Aer Lingus' cabin crew are generally much nicer than Ryanair's.
