I'd probably go with the Dell, the i3 processor being newer architecture. You won't notice a huge difference day-to-day between three and four GB of RAM unless you're gaming, which you won't be on Intel ****e.

Dell has DDR3 too, bit excessive.

What screen is on the medion? Thats what I'd be most concerned with.

Sorry forgot to mention the Medion comes with a 3 year warranty opposed to Dell which only gives a 1 year, basically I'll be using the laptop for a bit of Football Manager ;), maybe try my hand at some video editing then the usually stuff email blah blah.

I'm leaning more towards the i3 Dell at the moment due to it being a processor that will outlast the Medions when it comes to what spec requirements things might need in the next 2-3 years.

I'm also considering getting the Core i5 version sadly i cannot afford an extended warranty and that is the big thing holding me back from buying the Dell this instant.

(Have had issues with previous laptop though it wasn't Dell, but still...)

    Res?

Dell says HD but isnt really btw. 1600x800 has been the standard for ages so 1366 is nothing special.

To be honest mate screen resolution is not a big issue to me, as long as i can read the **** on the screen i'm happy

Medion says 16 in Widescreen display - HD resolution with 1366 x 768 pixel.

Yeah but you also gotta consider 3 year warranty vs. 1 year warranty?

Limited warranty. Dunno how much use it'll be after a year. Also, you might wanna check out what Medion CS is like, Dell are usually quite good AFAIK but I've no idea about Medion.

I find dell computers more robust and their support is OK too.

    Hi Fawkon,

I have the Medion Akoya P6612 and its a great budget machine the processor (2.0 dual core) and graphics (nVidia not HD) are not as high spec as the one your looking at but it handles everything I throw at it - video/photo editing, Counter Strike Source on low detail settings, a few other games CS:source being the one with the highest spec, office and college work.

The only issues I have is the USB ports are positioned in an awkward spot (on the right hand side where you'd usually have a usb mouse) and my one tends to get a bit hot on the left of the touchpad after I've been playing CS for an hour or so.

If the Medion Akoya P6613? ticks all your boxes except maybe not having the i series processor I'd go for the medion. But if you think it's not going to be able to meet your needs for the next year or two then go with the Dell machine.

    Good luck.

For the record, the i3/i5/i7 require DDR3.

Dell will give you a call at the end of the 1 year warranty and ask do you want to extend it. It will give you a chance to put some money aside if the warranty is a important issue for you.

Really? My warranty ran out a few months back and I've got no such call from them.

How much does the warranty cost actually?
