Advice for a Commerce student?

    Hi,

I'm a Commerce student at UCC and next year will be my final year. I really hope to become a teacher, there's honestly nothing else I'd want to be more but I'm very thrown by the high points required for the Grad Dip in the NUI's.

I'd need to do a masters to bump my points, as going by previous results I'm a solid high 2.1 student. However, I'm really not sure if I want to do another year in something business related. Are there any masters I would be able to do that would open up another teaching subject for me? Or are masters not taken into account?

I'm also considering the Grad Dip in UL, but I'm not sure whether or not I should do a masters before applying for that either - just to give me an edge in interview. Plus, the shorthand skills test is very offputting as I have no knowledge of shorthand what so ever!

It's just all a bit daunting and an awful lot to think about and I'd really appreciate any advice anyone could give me.

    Thanks!

    Hi Scrabble,

Would you consider going to the U.K. to do the Dip.? It's known as the PGCE. I'm in my final year of my degree at the minute and I didn't even bother applying for the Dip. in Ireland due to the high points. I got accepted to do it in Liverpool Hope University in Feb, I had to go over for an interview but other than that it was very straight forward.
It's just so you know you have more options out there if you don't get the points for the NUI's!

No help to the OP but how things have changed in the last 8-9 years, no such thing back then as not having enough "points"!
