    Hi All,
have my NCT next Friday and low and behold the god damn mother******g engine light just came on this morning.

So looking over the new tests it does not mention the engine alarms.

So will it pass with the engine alarm light on?:D

I'd be more concerned as to why it's on to be honest, oil levels ok ?

Oil and everything that I can check is fine.
It has come on before, seemingly when between 100 and 120 kmph but would always go off shortly after.

It has just been for a service, 2 new brake pads, lights leveled and new E tyres, now this re appears.

I will get it checked but just wanted to know will it pass the NCT while on? (if it stays that way)

    Its a 06 Petrol Almera.

Yes, You need to either get your hands on a OBD2 code-reader (stand-alone, or cheap USB on from ebay) or go to a dealer.

The code will be in the format Pxxxx

Go here when you have the P code:

    http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/

    eg:

if the error code is P0036, this means "HO2S Heater Control Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 2)"

That's a spot of bad luck alright...

the light is on because there is either a faulty sensor or there is some emission related issue with the engine... if the light is on there is a good chance you'll fail for emmissions anyway... you can't ignore it I'm afraid... have it checked out...

    Best of luck,

The next time you're filling the car with petrol buy a bottle of injector cleaner. The check engine light came on on my Coupe a couple of weeks ago and it turned out to be dirty petrol. After cleaning the injectors the light disappeared.

Will give this a go. Now that I think of it, it does seem to happen when gettin petrol from a particular place.

Have a full tank at the mo and heading from Dublin to Carlow shortly, would it be ok to put the injector cleaner in with the full tank?got a 250ml bottle of STP petrol treatment. Pop it in before i go.

Mate here in worked suggested the same. Worth a try. Failing that I ll be in the garage tomorrow.

    Thanks for your help lads.

I'd try the stp stuff first too.

Failing that you could take the bulb out!

I'd my test the 1st day of the new regulations and I'd a few bulbs blown in the dash so the day before I took out the dash and replaced every bulb but when I put the dash back in my airbag light was on and the warning light to say I'd not buckled up my seat belt wasn't on.

I'd put a leather interior in my car (orginally cloth seats) and I reckon I messed up a sensor...so didn't have time to figure out/sort the problem so took the dash out, removed the bulb for the airbag and she passed!!

Mabey I won't be so lucky next time as mine was the first day of the new regulations so the testers may be smarter in two years time!! ;)
