Does anyone know which countries you are eligable/not eligable to teach in if you have an Arts degree and the 18months conversion degree from Pat's/Marino/Froebel? I've just noticed that I would not be able to teach in North America for example..

I'm pretty sure that you are qualified to teach in the US. Your primary degree is counted toward the 4 year qualification that you need. You can certainly work with VIF in the US. (Maybe you were looking at the thread where I said that the 3 year B.Ed. isn't accepted inthe US? I'm pretty sure that a degree and 18 months postgrad is ok for the US in every state).

You won't be able to work in Australia. They want a 4 year degree from Ireland (not degree plus 18 months). However, they accept the postgrad from the UK, but not the one from Ireland. So if you do the 9 month postgrad from the UK, you're ok in Oz, but not a 3 year B.Ed. degree!

I think that besides that most countries accept qualifications from Ireland. That said, I haven't looked into it too much besides the US and Oz. I think NZ accept our degree as I know someone over there who got a permanent job over there (through friends), but she's been over there a while so maybe she did a follow on course...she only got subbing for about 3 years there though. She had to do a version of the dip year before being qualified to get a temp/perm position. Best of luck.

Edited to say 2 of my good friends are in NZ for the year and they're just subbing but they've got loads of work in the Catholic schools (loads to keep them going). They just had to get their qualifications stamped or something...sorry bit vague on that part of the info. But they didn't have to move every three months like in Oz. My friends that have gone to Oz have only got childcare positions despite having a 3 year B.Ed.
