If you VRT a 2006 BMW UK car and the emmission is 153 do you qualify for the low car tax bracket?

When will they ever get rid of VRT,as i know the EU class it as illegal practice. Its not a nice feeling paying a couple of K over the odds for a motor. The country is slowing getting screwed into the ground

OP, only cars first registered from 2008 onwards are taxed on the new emmissions based system. Anything older than 2008 is taxed on engine size.

think of the poor 2007 honda accord diesel drivers €823 and if their car was a 2008 its only €302 :(

If they get rid of that they will just have to increase road tax by the same amount to make up the difference. The money has to come from somewhere

THink of the poor BMW 530d/535d drivers 1300 down to 630 or the Lexus GS450h drivers 1500+ down to 630.

If there was no VRT we would only be charged extra for something else. The slack would have to be made up somewhere else, dearer fuel? higher motor tax? That is a fact irrespective of whether someone ever does mount a legal challenge to it. Winning the case would really be a hollow victory.

Think of the poor petrol drivers who's tax would double or triple over night.

Why does it have to come from the motorist? I think it would be a lot better if they had motor tax added to the fuel price though, it would be a lot fairer and it would make it impossible for people to not pay their tax.

It's not added to the fuel because people are would not be willing to pay around €1.90 a litre. Anyone within 100 miles of the border would fill up in NI.
