to try and cut a long story short

met this girl at a sports outing last sept . got on really well with her and was going to ask her out but didnt get the opportunity that night. managed to get her email address from a mutual friend who works with her and sent her an email a few days later but got an out of office saying she was on 2 weeks hols. never got a reply. she could have forgotten who i was when she got the email

was out with friend a few weeks ago and was on about the girl. told her was mad to ask her out etc .

a few days later he told the lady ( i told him to ) that i was mad asking for her and she said she was looking forward to meeting me again, she said i was a lovely fella and very nice.

anyway due to meet her at another sports outing this weekend. my friend has found out she is single. i am mad to ask her out. would i be as well off to see how the day goes, suggest i send her an email and ask her out through the email or mention going for a drink sometime to in person

If you don't get a chance to ask her out in person or if it doesnt seem right (or you bottle it) Ask for her surname and throw her a friend request on Facebook - THEN ask her :D

Ya - I have to say, not replying at all is plain rude in my book. Cant understand how people think that is acceptable behaviour.

Personally in that position i would always give a very neutral reply after a small period of time has passed so as it is clear i am not interested. But i would always give some reply.

And ya - some people may say that by not replying is just a form of communication whereby they are saying they are not interested - which it is of course.
Quite a rude way of communicating it in my book though.

Assuming she has read it then unfortunately she isn't interested it seems.

Personally (This might in itself sound "rude") I would'nt have thanked her for her time...I'm not suggesting that you are but it sounds a bit....desperate?!

No more sports events coming up?

Dont rule out the possibility that she may not have checked her e-mails yet. Or perhaps she's waiting till she has the time to write you a decent reply rather than just typing the first thing that comes into her head

I would go along with this.

You were probably just better off asking her out in the email.
Because saying you had a nice time with her is basically you telling her you fancy her anyway - in which case you probably should have done it properly and asked her out.
