Can I buy a prepay smart card for the train?

    so i don't use the train a huge amount but the few times i do i'm annoyed by the speed of the ticket machines, the idiots who can't use them, my poor timing and various other things.

    my mate has one of those taxsaver smart card things and all he does is swipe.

    can i get a prepay version of those or do you have to pay monthly etc?

    They've been trialling them recently, and are either on sale now, or are supposed to be out this month. Try http://irishrail.ie/smartcard, although it doesn't seem to work right now...

    There is an active trial at the moment. There are issues that need to be smoothed out with the equipment supplier.
