.avi movies with quicktime ? missing sound

    Hi All

    I can play some.avi movies especially personal ones from cameras and they have both pictures and sounds. However I can seem to get sound with .avi movies on quicktime I get picture no sound...

    I had exactly the same problem as OP, and I was about to suggest both of the solutions supplied. Perian will provide the codecs to give you the missing sound (or vision) that sometimes happens with QT.

    VLC for the Mac can play just about everything you throw at it, from AVIs in video to FLACs in audio.

    VLC is a great app. you can also use it to play different region DVD's without the need to change your region!

    Had similar issues a few times with clients. Have you tried to update the codec. If you google A52Codec Universal.dmg or AC3CodecMacOS.sit.
    They should sort out your issue.

    I found it mentioned on another board site, i downloaded it and worked immediately.. great lil programme.
