Backlight problems

My Acer 5920g was dropped upon its hinges and now the backlight has gone.

Ive plugged it up to an external monitor and that works so it really leaves it down to an inverter or backlight problem. Checked connections and they seemed ok.

Had the standard symptoms of being able to see the screen faintly when looked closely and had a buzzing sound from the bottom of the screen when turned on (shorting?), so naturally i assumed inverter gone.

Bought inverter of ebay for it, replaced the inverted and voila the buzzing had gone. However the screen remains dark.

Now naturally i dont want it to be a backlight failure as its alot of effort to replace and costly if i dont do it myself.

Seems unlikely to me the inverter and the backlight gone at the same time. Any likelyhood of the inverter being incompatible, wrong type or of poor quality that while it stops the shorting still doesnt light the backlight? Particularly as its ebay bought?

Options are to buy another inverter or buy a test backlight and see if that lights up...or am i best of to take the wallet hit and bring it in?

    Am i missing something here?

    any opinions appreciated guys!

Yes it is actually likely that both the blight got damaged in the drop. If you can faintly see the screen image then it has to be the backlight
