Managing your contacts on the HTC Desire

    Hi,

the phone obviously can make use of Google accounts as well as phone-stored and SIM-stored contacts.

I like the idea of using Google, since I do use Gmail. At the same time, I don't want to be locked-in to Google. Maybe I'm just slow to make the leap. I've "linked" the phone contacts with Google contacts where appropriate.

So what are you doing? Storing your contacts on your phone, or making full use of Google contacts?

If you're one of the newer versions of Android, there is an option to "Show only contacts with phone numbers" that cleans up the contacts list nicely when you've synced it with Google.

I moved all my contacts to Google when I knew I was getting an android phone and since I have it set to show contacts with numbers only it works great!

I might make the leap to Google altogether then!

In the back of my mind, though, is a fear of getting locked in their platform (yes, you can export), and a mild cynicism in having all my contacts' information stored with them :)

I use Google contacts in numerous groups. You can select which groups to show. I also like the ability of the Nexus to sync with multiple google accounts.
Remember once you sync your phone the contacts are all stored on your phone anyway.
