New moderator?

    Hi all,

I can't help but feel a fast moving and dynamic forum like this one needs at least two, if not three or four moderators. As such I'd like to put myself forward as a potential moderator candidate.

While it may be true that there are several better candidates who have fancy economics degrees and jobs, I've got something they don't. Guts. I've the guts to stand by my marxian economic theories regardless of what anyone else says. I've the guts needed to advocate a return to the gold standard. I've the guts to say no to property rights. If you select me as your surpreme overlord I will bring about an erea of socialist utopia.

A Vote for boston is a vote for boston.

Hmm I think I'll spoil my vote.

Is it cause I is communist?

I honestly think the moderators here do an outstanding job.

I do note however, that when I have a query it is the same 2 or 3 people who try and shed some light/perspective on the issue. I guess this could be a drain on their time and they would prefer some help.

But noodler, there are no moderators, just one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,726 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    Same few users then.

I am the only moderator of Economics at the moment (although a certain devilishly handsome Cat mod is helping out;)), and I will be retiring from Economics soon enough, so we will be looking at replacements in the very near future.
The Cat mods are looking at new moderators, and they will be announced soon.

Note: Final decision is not up to me.

Economist Monetaire gets my vote if he actually wants the job.

I think this is a case of being asked rather than asking.

    I put forward noodler.

You kidding? I am the one asking questions everyday.

Can we get a move on with this? Flamed Diving would be a good choice, as would Zaraba.

You, Zareba or Flamed Diving is absolutely fine by me.

Why don't we have these three as moderators, if they're willing. We had two before and so three doesn't seem excessive.

+1, all 3 are fair and know what they're talking about

What is happening to the current moderator?

How about no moderator. As economists should we not advocate the power of the free market without intervention?

Not all economists believe that unfettered markets are efficient. If this forum had no moderator it would just be full of trolls, conspiracy theorists and unsourced claims (Irish Economy forum).

I liked the way that Time Magazine ran the joint, and would like to see a return to that standard.

Just to let you know, I PM'd the cMod about it, who will get back to me shortly.

Time Magazine was a v. good moderator, why did he go? Let's just reappoint TM, with FD and/or Zaraba if The_Minister is leaving.

I'm out guys, though thanks for the mention.

Too much work to keep up with boards at the moment.

Well I think we are all happy enough for any of the names mentioned to take it if they want it.

This stinks of nepotism and cronyism. What about democratic process?

Has Time Magazine absconded and left the forum without bidding farewell or was there a coup d'etat that I am unaware of?

I wish to nominate an Anarchist or an Austrian. Is there a difference?

This is a privately owned website I'm afraid. ;)

Do any of the names above own the site?

I doubt it, they are just making suggestions but I'd imagine the final decision rests with the mysterious powers that be who don't seem to be in a rush about it.

Guys - I'm sorry about the delay on this one. We're working on getting new faces in as quickly as possible - one of the foibles of the new mod approval thing is that users have to be approved before they can be asked, and sometimes you wait for them to be approved, and when they are, they don't want to do it :)

but honestly - this is on the top of my to-do list and I WILL NOT REST until you are freed. I mean enslaved. you know what I mean.

The Minister - for the record, I know you have real life commitments, I know you asked to step down ages ago and I know you deserve better - you've been very cool, and for that you have my thanks and my apologies.

It's grand - I've needed something to stop me crawling into a corner and crying due to exam stres:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,914 ✭✭✭✭tbh

ok, the minister, thank you very much for all your efforts in the forum, best of luck in the exams and if you ever find yourself with a bit of extra time, you'd be very welcome back.

I'm delighted to say that the_recliner has agreed to step in to the gap, and I'm sure he'll be as popular here as he is in his other forums - the guys also got an economics degree, so we know that someone thinks he knows what he's talking about ;)

We're currently waiting on a cow to poop in a numbered square actively discussing further additions to the mod team for this forum, so watch this space.

    Sure I have two.

Seriously though, not to be a dick, but did everyone who was actually nominated say no?

EDIT: Sorry, just saw this thread wasn't actually an official mod request.

The degree was a long time ago, I have forgotten most of what I learned :p

I would hope in due course to have an active poster from the forum added as Mod, I believe every forum needs mods who are active in it

I will have to do for now

Ah no, seriously, I had thought the thread was was by admin or a mod - my mistake.

Whether it was an Admin that started the thread or not doesn't really matter

There were some good people put forward in this thread, it is up to the Admins now to pick someone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,726 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    Well, I'd respectfully disagree there.

It is all academic as it was my mistake but if admin or mods had opened a thread to request nominations and then someone who wasn't even mentioned in the thread was appointed as a mod then I would naturally question the point of opening said thread in the first instance.

    Anyway, all academic.

see the only problem i have with this thread is if someone is nominated and don't get the job, they may feel slighted, and I would honestly hate that. I'm confident the recliner will do a great job, and there are other mods to come.

I'm going to close this thread for now, rest assured that you have been listened to, and as soon as there's any news, I'll let ye know.
