Powering down a Sky+HD box via the remote?

If you power down a Sky+HD box via the remote (holding down the on/off button for more than 5 seconds), is this the same as turning it off at the mains? Do you lose the ability to update your viewing card? I'm not bothered about recording facilities as I only have an UK FTV card in the box.

After you do this there is still a light visible on the front of the box. Reason for query is that even after a long period on ordinary standby the top of the box (an Amstrad 890) is still warm(ish) to the touch and I'm cautious about leaving it unattended as there is no one in the house all day long.

It is not the same as pulling the power, the power supply is still on as are parts of the box itself to pull down updates, be on standby to record etc.

Don't think it will burst into flames when you're out of the house!
