I am thinking about insulating my attic, what are the costs or savings involved for doing it yourself as opposed to getting it done by a company or by grant?

    Any input appreciated

well, what's the area of your attic?
What sort of insulation would you like up there?
What depth of insulation are you going for?
Have you quoted from different installers yet?
When you've done that, then price the insulation yourself from a good builder's providers, and see if you would be able to do it yourself - it's not difficult, only a dirty nasty job that'll take a day.

Shouldn't cost a fortune to do but will help with the heat retention in your home.
It is not the nicest job to do in the world but take your time and do it right and you'll benefit with a warmer home.

grant is 250 euro for attics but the minimum grant is 500 euro so you would need to get cavities pumped or drylining or external insulatuion also to hit the minimum grant level.

As the other posters said its easy and cheap but not the nicest job, ask for the non itch insulation to avoid a day of scratching!
