Now I know Ray is an ex footballer, and a good one,and now is 'punditing' on RTE2. But..........

Would someone in there take him in hand and teach him the tenses.

DO.... Past tense DID.... not DONE

He should have went... No Ray, it's he should have gone.

He should have gave...No Ray , it's he should have given

The goalkeeper should have took another option.... No Ray, it's he should have taken.

Sweet enamel jaysus!!! why is this allowed on the national broadcaster?

If he is the presenter I think you have an issue, but as a pundit.

Why do you think sports people have ghostwriters. Even I have a ghostwriter, just in case someone one starts taking issue with my spelling and grammar.

Yeah, but how in the foooks name does he get them ALL wrong?

One ,even two, one could live with, but the lot, the whole bag, the full satchel!!

jeez! breaks my balls into powder ,it does.

i dont care about how he phrases his words hes just a sh1te co-commentator.

It's the constant moaning that gets to me with his "he should have done this or that" or "why didn't he just do this or that" - had to turn it off last night. You'd swear he never made a bad decision on the field...

Or maybe subconsciously it is the bad grammar that maddens me... I find myself shouting at Houghton more than the players!

well I suggest you all listen to TV3 coverage if you want to see how it shouldNt be done.

Its just Houghton that annoys me on RTE - other than that they're fine.

TV3 is often rubbish, getting players names wrong, not knowing what frees are given for but somehow they dont annoy me as much.

ITV - cannot stand listening to any of them!

ya hes annoying majorly! So is Peter Collins, (why does he always say Danny Alves and not Alves when he has the ball, really annoys me)

but not half annoying as the charasmatic Matt Cooper and the knowledgable Tony Cascorino.
Then theres the subdued BBC pundits who will put you to sleep faster than a vet, they also get in trouble if they bad mouth the FA or an England player or ever doubt England in the World Cup.

Sky have good commentry but their analysis at half time will concentrate on the star player, i.e its always about Messi or Ronaldo or Drogba etc...
RTE really break it down and their comparisons of the Barca and Inter defences last night was really well presented.

Though Eamon will always end up kissing Giles backside. 'Johns right','i agree with John', 'Listen to John', 'John knows more about this than me'

Giles and Dunphy, along with Bill (and his "out there" questions) are the best thing about the RTE coverage.. I dont watch the premiership if they are not on it.. Kenny Cunnigham/Trevor Steven etc are soooooo boring.

If you are not in the pub watching the game, it's nice to have a bit of the pub banter from your couch. Giles and Dunphy give you that. Same as with Hook and Pope on the rugby.

oh ya hes always licking up to him none more than last night. still there a laugh at times although whelan is desperate. not the same since brady left. i actually am getting to like tv3's game analysis, cooper isnt great but it not to bad. i like martin keown, they got a good one there in him, doing a good bit with him been on the bbc aswell. but trevor welsh is brutal as a commentator, total rubbish. someone mentioned peter collins there, he gets on my nerve the most, should never be let near a mike. stephen alkin isnt bad as a commentator.

Very risqué, considering Bertie's suicide remark is the one that is most quoted from everything he's ever said on any topic.

Eamon: "Scots they're either nice or they're horrid and these two are horrid.
Bill: "The Scots wont like that Eamon, thats bordering on racism".
Eamon: "Its not racism its ethnic criticism Bill".

    Gotta Love it!

RTE are beyond a joke at this stage, not just Houghton. Before the game last night, just as it was about to break from the panel and go to kick-off, Bill asked them all how they think the game will go. Both Giles and Dunphy basically said in as many words "I haven't a clue Bill".

    Eh? What?

Giles said he'd only seen Lyon on one occasion this season. Do some fcukin homework you daft old man!

fair point...but his commentary does not show a true understanding of the game.:)

you know what its very hard to get a good commentator. very few of them around. tv3 had a good one conor mcnamara but he works with bbc radio5 live now commentating. hes a regular now with them. good voice for it. remeber a guy called gary bloom was always a good one aswell.

I agree completely .. it's not good enough to say "I dont know". That's what they are being paid for.

It was clear to me that Giles had finally lost the plot on the day he spent an entire match calling Gary Doherty "Ken Doherty".
