Objecting to a rally route

Sligo Stages Rally will be passing my home in July. Who do I object to to try and get the route changed? My house is right on the roadside and on a series of bad narrow bends, plus I'm working the day it is on.

    Thanks. :)

    I suppose the rally organisers.

The council will have to put a notice in the papers for the road closure and there is an option to object. You would need to look into it though.

You would need a very good reason as I have seen weddings go through stages..

The only reason is because of a Sudden Funeral. Needing to go to work is not a good reason I'm afraid.

But talk to the Motor club They might be able to sort you with a lift to a road where you can leave your car.

there must be some flexibility, they can't just shut a public road for a rally junket. IMO thats not a good enough reason unless they are willing to help residents out.

You are pretty much powerless unless its a sudden death..... im sure you will have someone from the rally organising commitee (if they are doing their jobs right) come to your house before the rally, if you ask them nicely, seriously nicely cos if you shout and roar they wont help at all, to give you an access pass for when the stage isnt live , as in the rally cars going past at speed, so you can be escorted into your house. But bear in mind if you decide to go onto the road after it has been closed you can be arrested as the guards /council have given permission to close the roads to the public.

P.S i assume you know the hours that your working on sunday 11th of July if you know its going to be affecting you? Also the fact that its a bad twisty road means its a good road for the purpose of a rally.

They do help residents they usually inform via mail first, in this case they are giving the OP 3 months notice to make arrangments, then someone will call around to everyone who will be affected by the rally route shortly and discuss their options, spacific requirements.

I used to have to go through it every year in june up untill 2 years ago.

Just incase you get the wrong idea from some of the other posts , the rally organisers are not power mad ogres. They WILL do their best to help you because they rely on residents good will to allow roads to be closed. They should have or will make contact with all residents and if not , look up the web site for the rally and you will find the liason officer.Just talk to them and they will listen.

    Thanks for your replies. :)

However, I am utterly incredulous that unless someone dies, I am seemingly powerless to stop these people doing what they like without some form of compensation for the probable damage they will cause and the inconvenience. My house is probably the closest to the road (between 1 and 2 meters) and on the worst series of bends on the route and I am not having it.
Needing to go to work is not a good reason I'm afraid.
Well, it is to me. :)

I am going to do my best to change this ridiculous situation. :)

Sigh its hardly resiculous now! any damamge to your property will be fixed no matter how severe it is! The motor clubs fix things from a simple fence post to things like boundry walls ect, dont worry about that, if you fight it it will only make things worse, people will help you out but if you be cheeky about it you will get nowhere. If your house is directly in the line of fire they will put things there (round bales ect) there to stop the damage in the first place and compinsate you for your inconvenience grow up !!! if that were the case i would sue the council for every time i came across traffic lights, or a road closure!

Best thing to do is relax, someone from the club will be with you and will try and acomidate you, although the stage will run that you can be sure of! Come back to us when the event is over and tell us how much damage has been done to your property

Please don't tell me to grow up, it isn't your property in question here. :)

dont know what the fuss is
it is only a few hours

Before things get too heated , I think the OP should remember that they have came onto a pro motorsport thread to ask for advice on how to ban a motorsport event.Even thou , as far as I know , none of the other posters want to see a stage cancelled , they have still given the appropriate advice.

Its not the only time they have asked about this on boards, one of the other threads someone told genie (ironiclly a well know rally drivers nickname :p) that they know someone who is usually a stage commander for sligo stages rally and that they would say to him about it, then felt the need to come on here...

I all honesty though OP dont panic, i can assure you now that any damage done to your property (which i doubt is likly to happen as there are things usually done to prevent this) the motor club will fix this they have to.... its why they charge entry fees / have insurance! Still doesnt mean you can be forgiven for making a statement like you wanted compensated for your time (sorry for my slighty agro response just bugs me when people say them kinda things), although if you ask niclel they may compinsate you with a free program :P

seriously though what hours do ya work? the rally usually has stages closed from 7am - 8pm in their letters but in most instances the residents can arrange to leave any time before 10am/11am depending on the stage and get back in by 5/6 as the rally usually is finished by then.

Well, they shut certain roads in Belfast every year just to force people to watch an unwelcome bunch of orange gowned bowler hats march by and there's nowt locals can do about it.
At least a rally is an impressive spectacle!

it also brings revenue to the area
    it only lasts hours
i never mind when the rally pass my place, i know it is for the good of the locality
tv follow these, it is great advertising for the place, young people who follow this with great interest are the best, shops, bed breakfast, hotels, restaurants locally do good, every year i am blocked off for 3 days for a sports event, and i dont mind, i work my way round it, i am only too glad to be part of those who will not make things which are very hard work to arrange harder the organisers.
