so its nearly 10 months since Michael Jackson passed away, 2 months till the 1 year anniversary, what do you think? Does it matter to you? Do you care? On June 25 will anyone here think of him, of his family, of what the world lost or is it just another day to you?

Like hundreds of fans Im travelling to California and I will be at the Forest Lawn on June 25. Fans from all over the world will be there, united in grief for the man we loved.

Fans all over the world will be marking this day, holding memorials in major cities for those who cant be in California. I know that in Dublin and in London, fans will be meeting up.

This is some of what we did last June
my video of my photos from the fan memorials in London and California

fan memorial at The O2 London June 26 2009
On 26 June 2009, Michael Jackson fans held a candelight vigil outside The O2 London. With permission from The O2. the fans brought flowers and candels and through the singing of his music, shared the pain and grief of the first 24 hours without Michael Jackson. The songs being sung are not the famous songs, but the songs which have personal meaning to the grieving fans. Brought together by the shared love of Michael Jackson, united in a grief which very few understood

No, it doesn't matter to me at all.

There are an awful lot of undeserving tasteless people making money by sponging off the memory, and milking it for everything they can squeeze out of it. I'm glad I'm not a fan, or I might be one of the ones paying them.

well hello there, thanks for replying:) um actaully your post has had the opposite effect, instead of me being all offended that shock horror, your not a fan, I actaully agree with what you are saying. Its not just people like you who cant stand all the people making money out of what happened on June 25th. Many of the MJ fan community cant stand all that too. What really annoys us though is all the fake fans, who couldnt be bothered with Michael before June 25, yet once it happened, suddenly became the biggest fans and were sooo devestated by the loss. I have alot more respect for people who like you say, Im not a fan, than all those who just became fans after June 25th.

I Loved Michael Jackson when I was a kid in the 80s. Today I still love a lot of his songs, videos, dance routines. I felt a pang all right when he died, as this was the death of an icon I associated with my childhood, and I appreciate the impact he made on popular culture. But other than that, yep, just another day.

I'll say RIP on the day probably and I too like a previous poster remember him from the 80's but that's about it. Don't get me wrong, it was a tragic accident and an awful loss to the music industry that he died, but I'll likely remember more the young footballer who died in Leitrim, perhaps because it's more real and at home and I feel more sympathy for his family, rather than the glitzy crowd in L.A. or wherever they are making money of his back (MJ's) and not letting him rest in peace.

    Without?

His music gets played more than it did for the prior 15 years.

No, doesn't matter to me. I was never a fan and thought he was more than a bit weird in his last few years. However, I can understand that as he was such a huge icon to so many, his anniversary will be a big deal for those who loved his music. Like ejmaztec, I hope that true fans who want to commemorate the day are not subject to rip off merchants trying to cash in on his death.

No it doesn't matter to me. I wasn't a fan of his music, and certainly not of his private life either, although I think some aspects of his life were very sad.

It makes me realise how fast the year has gone by...

I saw Michael during his HIStory tour in the Netherlands in what I remember to be 1996. I was a huge fan of his when I was a bit younger and I still am. I will remember him fondly. I was sad when he died, but I don't think I will do any active remembering except maybe play his music.

I have a head for dates, so it may occur to me on June 25th (no doubt the media will remind me anyway) that it is Michael Jackson's anniversary.

Like others, whilst I acknowledge that he was an icon and their hero, I can't say that I was a huge fan of his.

I realise how influential his music was and I was shocked when he died, mainly because he was such a big star.

to be honest, i only remember the date because I lost a friend the day before, I still listen to Michael Jackson Songs, the old ones, but I cant say his death affected me hugely

I like a lot of his old songs, but I still can hear them, so I can´t allege that I miss him as a person! I believe that his private life was a tragedy anyhow, and his early death made him a legend! I feel sorry for his family and friends, because they are the ones that will miss him most!

I've enough to worry about in my own life. Don't have time to think about the dead kiddy fiddler.

    NO.

I liked one or two songs from his time with the Jackson Five (more so for the backing music) but never liked him solo. I thought I would never miss him but I`ve recently seen video of him trying to explain how he was set up in the headline grabbing latter events in his life and am inclined towards believing him and having some sympathy for him also.

No - it doesn't matter in the slightest to me.
I cannot understand people who mourn the famous - those who say "it was like losing a member of my own family!!!" - In my opinion only those who have never lost a family member would come out with something that ridiculous! It was like when Gerry Ryan died and all the statements that came from fans. Yes he entertained people but he could not have moulded your life!
Sky News will be full of it on 25th June and it will be shoved in our faces for a day or two.
RIP MJ - but I have more than enough going on in my own life thanks!
    Rant over - thanks!

I was out running this evening listening to MJ on my iPod, when I started to think to myself "God he's nearly a year dead", then I come in and see this thread!
He wrote great music, he left behind a wonderful legacy (as well as some controversies). I reckon I will still play his music in 20 years time.

Michael Jackson still lives on. I am still hearing some of his music being played on the radio, but the difference is the creating of songs stops there. Like the songs coming from him will never be increase as he was gone already. Until now people missed him and still can't accept his passing. Let's just support him by buying his albums. For sure music industry will showcase a digest album which features all of his songs.

And who would that be? Because it sure wasn't Michael Jackson.

By your logic (Or lack of I should say), if I made a baseless lie and accused you of being a child abuser then you would be a child abuser by default. I guess evidence doesn't mean much to you

He wasn't making anymore good music, so no. Not really.

As weird and misguided as he was, when he was on stage or in the studio nobody could match him for talent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭ang

Yes it matters to me. I am 32 and have been an MJ fan since I was 5. Saw him in Lansdowne Road in 1992 and the RDS in 1997. I had tickets to see him in the O2 London on 27th September 2009. He was the most talented person of all time and there will never be anybody like him again.

I can't believe it's almost a year since he died. The day he died was a Thursday. Everybody was ringing me to say put on Sky news, reports were in that he had been rushed to hospital. When it was confirmed he had died it didn't seem real. I was up till 3am watching various news channels. I don't know how I went to work later on, I was exhausted and in a daze for the day. Couldn't believe Michael had died.

I went to the World Music Awards in London in 2006 as he was being given a special award. It was great to see him on stage again, he sang a few lines of We are the World, and contary to tabloid reports, he was not booed off stage. The fans went wild when he appeared.

Ever since his concert at the RDS in 1997 I was hoping he would perform again. It was my dream to see him one last time in concert. I was so excited when he announced the O2 gigs and when I amazingly managed to get 2 tickets. I was so looking forward to the concert. It is so upsetting that the fans will never see him perform again.

I went to see THIS IS IT in the cinema even though I know Michael wouldn't be happy with it's release. He had the rehearsals recorded for his own personal use, not for public viewing. The concert would have been amazing. The set for each song was superb. I bought THIS IS IT on DVD but only watched a few minutes of it. It's too hard to see him rehearse for concerts that will now never take place.

I feel so sorry for his children. He protected them from the public eye, so I hate it now when I see paparazzi pics of them. People might think it was weird how he covered their faces but he just didn't want them to go through what he went through - didn't want them to be photographed every day like he was since he was a child.

    No, sorry.
    Was not into his music.
Very sad about his passing but in regarding his material, I was never into it.

No need to apologise about having different music tastes ;)

Although I find it hard for anyone to not like MJ's music but... :P

Undoubtedly talented and had some great stuff in his early days ....but his notoriety had become incredibly tedious in latter years , so no...I don't miss him.

I still feel sad about Michael Jackson passing at such a young age as I think he had a lot more to give. He was an extremely talented musician and I don't think there will ever be as talented an artist in my lifetime. Too many people form an opinion of a celebrity by what they read in the papers. I think anyone who appreciates music, whether they are a fan or not will recognise how important an influence Michael was on the music industry.

It's incredible how some people on this site can brandish someone a kiddy fiddler and the like and that's all fine and dandy.Yet when one user calls another user a muppet they get banned...completely ridiculous!
