How to learn to park

I had a lesson with my instructor for parking. I managed to perfectly park in between cars in car park and did it "for real" today! However my parallel park was bad, and then even when I got it it was on a good road with a good large spot. The problem is I used clutch control only and hover my foot over brake. Howevr my spot at home is on an incline and the car struggles - i need the accelerator. Its not as if I can reverse in from one direction because the incline is a big speed ramp- no matter what direction you go in you jave to reverse up the ramp and I am afraid to accelerate in case I cant brake in time. Any suggestions?
Also I am curious to where eveyone else learned to park- did you just try it when you had to or did you go out an practice somewhere ?

When i learned, i just threw myself in the deep end and picked a nice big spot on a road and went for it! I would definitely use the accelerator though, relying solely on the clutch just wont be enough for all occasions. You'll still be going very slowly, so you should be able to move to the brake with ease. It might seem daunting, but just practice it whenever you can and ask your instructor/accompanying driver to give you advice.
    Best of luck!
