i was on to them before they asked me did i live in a certain address in dublin,i said no then they asked me did i live in a different address in dublin i said no again, i told them my address, they said i have no penalty points,
i also went into court to ask them did i have an endorsment, they also said no,
so i went to court for careless driving, paid €150 fine and then nothing apparently,
i dont trust them at all,

Don't understand your post Bladebrew. Why did you have to go court with them?

Go into the tax office and at reception ask for a print out of your entire driving history. its 6 quid and they'll post it out within about a week.
If its the Smithfield office you go to, the counter you need is the one just inside the front door.

how long is it since you got the points?
They normally write out to you informing you the points have now been removed from your licence.
They did to me anyway :D

Checked Motor tax office (Driving History). No points. Rang Rsa, No points.
So does that mean that I have no penalty points or Endorsements.
I find that hard to believe as I reckon I have 5

Can you not just give them your license number/serial etc?
Surely the points are linked to that number?

Aren't endorsements stamped on your licence?

If they were given to you in court theres a chance they were never applied to your licence. There was something in the news last month saying something like 90% of court awarded points don't actually get applied to the licence.

sorry i went to court originally on a charge of dangerous driving but it was dropped to careless driving on the day, (for clipping a lady with the wing mirror)

in the rules of the road book it says that a conviction for careless driving is an automatic 5 penalty points onto your licence!

i did the good citizen thing and immediatly told quinn i had 5 penalty points and a conviction for careless driving,

the problem now is i apparently have no penalty points and i was told in the court office i have no endorsment on my licence,
so basically i got a €150 fine in court and nothing else,it was my fault for telling quinn about my apparently non existent penalty points

AFAIK the issue was that when people where given points/endorsements they where supposed to hand their licence to the clerk of the court to get them added. Only a few people did this, the rest didn't and our great civil servants never bothered to chase up the people who payed but didn't hand in their licence.

It's not that they simply just didn't bother, the law didn't allow them to do so but that is being changed now.
A spokesman for the Courts Service said staff recorded drivers' licence numbers "as required by law, and where able".
"However, they can only do this when a licence is produced. The need to bring a licence to court is outlined on the summons issued by us to each defendant. The matter of following up such an offence is not a matter for the Courts Service.
"The law at the moment does require people to produce their license but does not give any authority to the Courts Service or its court officials to demand its production."
He added: "It is a slur on the integrity of our dedicated and able staff to suggest or state that they 'are not bothering' to collect this information, as was stated in one newspaper."
