Have you made contact with the garage ?

Ya he said he sold it as is and he basically told me to go away and that he would not be doing anything with the car for me.

i thought i was protected if i bought a car off of a garage

Did you buy it as is ? Did you get a reciept ?

I bought it in a garage he never mentioned anything about as is until the engine went & i went back to him

I bought it for cash. by he gave me the log book cert so i have that as a receipt.

    Me three!

You didn't get receipt from a garage OP?? You've got the log book; What's to stop him saying you bought it for 100 quid? Is there a figure in it?

I am a long time around, but never yet had to buy an escort. By the time I have to probably won't be able to afford one.

why go to a garage for an escort? - have they to be put on a charge like those new electric cars?. I don't get out often these days, but I thought one went to a massage parlour

hi i recently bought ca r from a garage and it need a new exhaust after a week.i spoke to comsumer connect which is who you should contact. The car i bought had no nct but 3 they were giving me 3 months warranty and said they gaurantee the nct. Consumer connect told me that it is illegal for a car to be sold by a garage with no nct so if i demanded my money back he would have to give me a full refund. Do you have a reciept or any kind of proof of purchase even a credit card statement if you paid by credit card?
You would think that with the motor trade being hit so bad that garages would be very weary of getting a bad name for themselves but there seems to be a lot of cowboys.
Heres the details for consumer connect.

You bought a c. 12 year old car (i'm guessing because the Focus was launched in 98). The law does take something of a you pay peanuts you get monkeys approach. The seller doesn't have a huge obligation to you, but you probably will be able to sustain some sort of claim.

I suggest you rock on over to courts.ie and file an application with the small claims court. In the meantime, get the car back on the road.

Same. I thought we'd be having a big debate about it. Kinda disappointed.

OP never mind the idiotic replies and questions from ppl who clearly havent a notion what the answer to your question is.

the short answer is yes you do have rights here.if you bought the car from private or from an auction then you wouldnt have much chance of getting your money back. contact citezens advice and they should be able to sort this for you with a couple of phone calls. GL

slowclap. too bad you know nothing about the situation besides the 1 line posted by OP - it would be terrible advice to tell OP that they definitely have rights here. What is a bad escort? How did the engine go? Was it something OP did?
