Well im pretty much open to anything but generally most of the books id read would be about crime, or true storys of people going through hardship.

    Books like.

    the westies by t.j. english
welcome to hell by colin martin
This is for the mara salvatrucha by samuel logan
Back from the brink paul mc graths autobiography

But i am really open to anything a good book is a good book after all.

I can't say I've read anything in the line of true crime books but as 'misery' autobiographies go its hard to beat Frank McCourt's 'Angelas Ashes'... (Decent film too)

The Complete History of Jack the Ripper by Philip Sugden. A good objective look at the whitechapel murders, not the man/legend. Really recommnd it.
If you like genetics try Origins of the British (not a fan of the title as he deals with Ireland) by Stephen Oppenheimer or Journey of Man by Spencer Wells.
I suppose you could call them anthroplogy or historical; Guns, Germs and Steel and Collapse by Jared Diamond are interesting.

The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band. The story of Motley Crue. One of the greatest music books ever writen,It is a must read for everyone. Money, drugs, women, death, jail, rehab this book has it all. It will make you laugh and cry. You don't have to be a crüe fan, the story itself will stand on it's own two feet. I can't praise the book enough. Check out the reviews on amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d.html/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/188-7297157-3189615?a=0060392886

    Gomorrah by Roberto Saviano

The General And I by Wolfgang Eulitz

    Hei$t by Howard Sounes

    Wiseguy by Nicolas Pileggi

    McMafia by Mischa Glenny

    The General by Paul Williams

All of the above are excellent, non-fiction, true-crime books that I really enjoyed reading and anyone who's into those genres should love...

    Good luck!

david simons two books are great reads, the corner and homicide life on the street. Gomorrah and goodfellas are both great reads and incidentally the last two NFs i read.

and if your in the mood for something a bit more local you could try showtime by eamon leahy, not too everyones taste and if you cant stand current affairs then its not for you..
