Was driving through Sandyford Industrial Estate last night & was stopped by some dudes with flags, who were letting cyclists through the roads... They were mostly girls & seemed to be doing laps of the block, but not travelling particularly fast. Was it some sort of endurance practice?

I guarantee you some of those girls are pretty damn fast indeed.

There was an underage race and a bit of practice before each of the races, you might have seen either one of these. I missed the main race but I would imagine it was quite fast.

In fairness, I only saw them taking the 90 degree corner, so they may just have slowed down for that section. It was an unusual sight & they were letting cars though at the same time as the cyclists - just not as they were taking the coirner... There were lots of people stopped to watch too. Some ****er behind me in a Yaris was having none of it though & started beeping the horn & reving the engine - I presume he had somewhere very important to be & lost those 30 seconds which he will never get back...

I was saying that last night, I mean if you know Sandyford Industrial estate then it's not necessary at all to drive through there at all, I don't really think it's a shortcut at all so it amazes me to see so much traffic using it to get from Blackthorn road to Blackthorn avenue. I did hear some of the ladies talking about a dodgy driver, but everyone I stopped was really decent and not upset at all.

You need to go up Carmenhall Rd to get to Dunnes. Its also a main route from Leopardstown to Dundrum & Balinteer.

Eh, you can get from Leopardstown to Dundrum via Blackthorn without ever going near Corrig road, that's the way I normally do it. If you go Blackthorn avenue you can now go straight along that new road that links up with Kilmacud road.

As Tom says it was the Women's Criterium League. Probably the underage race or the warm up lap if there were any men with them. The A race was seriously fast, particularly around that corner. I was probably the guy stopping you so I appreciate your patience! Most drivers were fine with it but there were a couple who were a nightmare.
