rotbunt are not an MRI per say , they are a hybrid of MRI ( 75 % ) and red holstien ( 25%) and while they are more beefy than holstien , they are much less beefy than a straight MRI

we had fantastic service from the mri we initially crossed them on the holstein when we decided that profit from dairying was not all about putting gallons into the tank,

after we imported our first batch of montbelairdes and a stock bull we kind forgot about the mri but if there was a good animals available i would go for them

we recently bought some calved rotbunt x heifers and also have Norwegian red maiden heifers

all we need now is a couple of brown swiss :D:D

Dont know whelan I am happy with rotbunt I feel they are like british fr only red and white the calves put on good condition and make nice yearlings
Teagasc have done trails with norwegian red x fr and they faired better than pb friesans.
I have a few brown swiss aswell but while the are lovely dosile cows I cant say they are any better than freisans or other breeds for milk or health
The good brown swiss come from american breeding much like the holstein
They grow as big or bigger than holstein.

did you find the brown swiss were extremley difficult to rear as calves , as in they wouldnt drink milk if you put a gun to thier head

I heard before i got them to forget about feeding them from a bucket
They took ok to the nipple feeders though I feed all calves with them now less work than training to a bucket
I only have 5 pb swiss I have a bit of a mixed bunch wanted to get a feel for different milking breeds
