    Hi all

Planning on cycling from Ashbourne to the City now that the weather is improving. Have always drove in and wondering how the hell do people get across the M50? Currently the m50 finglas exit is a mess, lanes all over the place etc, i wouldn't fancy cycling on that road in rush hour...

Is there some secret alternative route that people take?

    many thanks

Take the old ashbourne road and cut east at Kilshane Cross. You get to a bridge over the M50 that way. Or you could cut up towards the airport and cross the M50 at Ballymun / IKEA.

For a more scenic route, you could head out the swords road and turn south at Rolestown.

is that the only way? Seems crazy that we can't get over it and have to go miles out of our way to get across the m50 safetly.

They used to have some path before, that lead to the old ashbourne road, is that now gone?

Actually i just checked the map properly, that doesn't seem too bad, thanks for that. I'll give it a shot.

Still its crazy they dont provide something for people that dont use cars to get across

I commute from Ratoath to Dorset Street most days.

It is a bit of a mess with all the road works alright. The way I go is down the old N2 and past the Brock Inn, then come on to the dual carriageway. When I get near the end of the dual carriageway and there's enough of a gap I just pull out and take the lane. There's normally a bit of traffic as you approach the lights but you'd be moving as quick as the traffic, so it's actually safe enough.

There is another route you can take that would only add a couple of KM's at most. If you take a left at Kilshane Cross and head in the back of the airport to Finglas. To be honest I doubt it would even add a couple of KM's and it would cut out the dual carriageway.
