Failing maths in the Leaving Cert

OK, well I'm doing pass maths, but I am just terrible at maths. I'm not numerically minded at all. I failed my mocks and I feel really worried about the actual exam. I want to do Creative Writing through Arts in Galways or Human Rights through Arts in Galway (NUIG that is). I want to stick with the pass maths, unless I completely psych myself out and do foundation. However, if it so happens that I fail, what does this mean? Do I have any chance of being accepted into NUIG for these courses? My other options are English in Maynooth, general Arts in Maynooth and Galway, and Arts in UCD.

I heard that if you fail maths, you can still be accepted onto some courses in some Universities. Is this true? I really want to go to NUIG, so can I still be accepted if I fail or decide to do foundation level?

Sorry if this question has been asked a million times before, I'm just worried and really need to know! Everyone I talk to doesn't seem to be sure!

    Any help appreciated!

    Thanks!

Do a bit of research! Maybe email admissions offices of the courses you want to do?

Arts accepts Foundation maths UCD and NUIM. I do Foundation Maths and I have both those course down on my CAO.

i would suggest u get grinds ASAP, i was similar enough to you but trust me you want to pass the maths

it would be vital if u wanted to change course or something in the future, by passing it now you wont be screwed down the line

get it passed and out of the way this time around

1to1 grinds would get you a pass

I would controversially suggest that you dump maths now unless you are sure of getting enough points for the courses you want. What's the point wrecking your head and wasting hours on maths now if it's going to take 50 points from your other subjects - the subjects that count in your case.

By all means do the maths exam in june but I wouldn't sacrifice my other subjects for it

edit: that's of course if you are happy to miss out on NUIG cos i think they want maths (though maybe not....i thought i saw somewhere under general nuig entry requirements that you needed maths but see below)

    edit 2: http://www.nuigalway.ie/courses/undergraduate-courses/arts-with-creative-writing.html <<<< they don't mention maths

    edit 3: http://www.nuigalway.ie/courses/undergraduate-courses/arts-with-human-rights.html <<<<< they don't mention maths

You could use the "subject requirements" tool on the qualifax website to get a listing of all courses that do/don't require maths at any particular level:

that's a cool tool but should have a health warning cos you can put in ordinary level maths and it will tell you that you don't need it for actuary and you might get someone who isn't on the ball and doing ordinary level maths but expecting to fail OL maths sticking actuary on their CAO because they think they don't need maths for it. Alright there can't be that many students of that 'off the ballness' in the country but there's always one :D

You would be limiting yourself by not taking the ordinary paper. I was in your exact position last year and its possible to surprise yourself if you get grinds or extra help from your teacher. I wouldnt reccommend 4AM cram sessions but it did come in handy for me :-p

NUIG's arts courses 100% accept foundation maths for matriculation/entry purposes. but no points are awarded for it! i'm doing foundation myself and hoping to do an arts degree in NUIG that ordinary maths is an awful balls :( ! oh well foundations a handy B in the bag so its one less subject i need to worry about! :D
