    Hi all,

I'm thinking of sowing about 4 ac of kale on a paddock that has had cattle on it since january. Would it have to be ploughed or can I just run a power harrow over it and sow the kale, then roll it. Any advice lads?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

we sow about 10 acres of it very year, on ground that cattle have been on all year, run of the discs and a powerharrow and its done.

would there be any concerns with compaction of the paddock? if the field has been seriously poached or damaged might it cause decreased yields in the crop of kale and or water lodging in the field due to compaction. in this case ploughing would be the better option if not powerharrowing would be fine i'd say.
