    Hi,

I have just been informed that it is neccessary to have passed an Irish exam if you want to secure a job as a seondary school teacher.

Does anyone know anything about this exam?

I am due to start the HDip in UCC in Sept. and have learned that there is a 15 week Irish course to complete in UCC before sitting this exam. I am going back to college after many years working so it is a considerable amount of time since I got my grade C in Lower Leaving cert Irish. Am I going to seriously struggle here?

    See this:

Unless you're teaching in an Irish language school you won't need it.

That's nonsense, It used to be the case that you needed a certain level of Irish but this requirement was removed a number of years ago. It prevented mobility for teachers within europe and the EU Commission got their way on it!
