Audi A4 buying advice

I'm currently driving a 00 Polo and am seriously thinking of changing to an Audi A4 this year. My budget is about 13,000 with a little wiggle room. I'm thinking a 05 06 Diesel 1.8 would be within my budget.

Has anyone got any advice on the A4 in general (good points/bad points)? Anything to look out for/ask about when buying? As far as I can tell all the 05 and 06's are the same models, are there any differences at all?

One thing not to look out for - a diesel 1.8.

    Why so?

    Because there's no such thing.

Its either a 1.6, or 1.8 turbo petrol engine, or a 1.9TDi/2.0TDi diesel engine your most likely to come across on your search.

TBH, the 1.9TDi is no great shakes. The 2.0TDi suffers from reliability issues. IMO there are better cars out there for your money.

Hmm just noticed on all the listings on Carzone theyre listed as 1.8 but described as 1.9. Damn lying car salesmen.

they're 1896cc or something. sometimes when you put a car up on vw.iw or toyota.ie the transfer to the duplicate ad on carzone goes arseways and just takes the first 2 numbers from the cc and displays in litres. not the garages fault in that case.

Nice looking cars, wouldn't want one though. Ride is awful IMO. As another poster said there's better out there etc. Check heavy steering, central locking intermittent, sticky brake calipers, look for a service history.
