I have a condition in my hip called Femoroacetabular Impingement. This is a condition of too much friction in the hip joint. This has resulted in chronic groin pain. I looks like I will require keyhole surgery to treat the condition.

Has anyone here ever had sugergy on this condition before? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I Kev80. I actually had the procedure on Monday. I had elements of both cam and pincer impingement. There was more significant damage to the cartelidge of the socket than anticpated which means I'll be 6 weeks on crutches to protect the repair job.

The good news is that pain is fairly minimal after 24hrs and not that bad in the initial period either. I have just finished my first stretching and bike (10 min) session of the day. Recovery prognosis is good. The only issue is not being able to drive for 6 weeks. Getting the other hip done in september.

Hi ajk24. Many thanks for your reply. I had an MRI Hip Arthogram yesterday. The results showed I have Hip Impingement/Labral Tears in both hips. I also have developed cysts. Both hips will need surgery. Sorry to hear you will be on crutches for longer than anticipated. Never had much pain in my hips, the pain was always in my groins particularly after playing sports. I've had groin problems for nearly 4 years now, even had adductor tentomy surgery but the problems persisted. Really hope this surgery does the trick. Best wishes with you recovery. I will be having my surgery in the Whitfield Clinic in Waterford but haven't confirmed a date yet. I think the surgeries need to be a minimum of 4 weeks apart.

How is your recovery coming along? I have my first surgery booked for July 19th.

    Hey,

Just seen this post there. Was at a consultant yesterday and he says that he thinks this is the condition I had as well. Have any of you any updates on how your procedures went since and afterwards etc?

    Cheers

    Hi Guys,

I'm glad that I have found a thread on hip impingment.

I'm a 24 year old male with hip/groin/buttock pain for the last 3 years. Can no longer play sports.

I went to see eanna falvey and keith synott in the santry sports clinic and he told me that I may have hip impingment.

I'm now waiting to see kevin mulhall the hip speacialist. I've heard that hip impingment surgery is not perfomed in Ireland, well according to the recent article about Diarmuid Duggan

    http://www.examiner.ie/sport/did-cork-turn-its-back-on-diarmuid-duggan-184442.html

This is slightly worrying as my insurance won't cover surgery aboad.

I would love to hear more about your stories, specifically who you went to see, how the surgery was and most importantly how you are feeling now.

I'm desperate to get it sorted.

Looking forward to hearing from you

    John

    Hi John,

I had both hips done by Declan Bowler in the Shanakiel Hospital in Cork. Covered by Aviva Health Level 2 Hospital Cover. About €11k per procedure. www.corksurgery.ie

Post Op - 4 to 6 weeks no weight bearing on the side operated on depending on the damage to the acetabular.
Mobility work from day 1. check out the following link for rehab.

    http://nucre.com/Artigos%20-%20Quadril/rehabilitation%20following%20hip%20arthroscopy.pdf

it took 18 months to get fully going again due to muscle imbalances but have done plenty triathlons, 5mile road races etc. since. Back playing football this year.
