Ok. Well I have an interview for Maynooth in the next month and I have to play a piano piece. The piece I would be most comfortable with is Gnossienne No1 by Erik Satie. The problem is that they want grade 6 standard. I havent done any grades in years and I dont really know if this piece would be of the right standard. Does anybody here have any idea of the standards?

Gnossienne No. 1 is perfect. In fact, I recall it was on List C of the old RIAM Grade VI.

    Good luck!

Right, I'm in the course now, just about to finish, but I'll give you a couple of tips.

With the audition, don't worry about making mistakes. They happen, and are far from the be all and end all of music.

Concentrate on making a musical environment with the piece. Work on your dynamics and expression. The gnossienne(s?) are always overlooked wrongly as being wallpaper music, so make it sing! :)

The lecturers will be looking for potential musical talent, not existing. (although if its alreadt there, you'll be fine! :D )

Soooo, basically relax and make music. I'm sticking around for a masters next year, so hopefully I'll be seeing you there! Good luck! :)
