    Hi everyone

I was wondering, does any know of anywhere that takes on volunteers in the Speech and Language Therapy sector?? I am so interested in working in this area, and would love some more experience with it

    thanks

Volunteer.ie Check out the health/disability category there is one in there that could suit (Generation text).
As an outside bet you could ask these organisations if they are interested in taking you on as a volunteer:
    Down Syndrome ireland
    Volunteer Stroke Scheme
    Stammering Ireland
Cleft Lip and Palate Association of Ireland

I'm in the same boat! Looking for experience myself! Seems a lot of places are reluctant to give shadowing experience in the Dublin area...saying that its all done through the HSE!?

I'm starting to look towards Kildare & Wicklow to see if they're more willing to give me some experience! Best of luck...hopefully coming into the summer now places will be more open :)

Thanks Star_gazer for your tips! Have contacted a few already!

TBH if you're looking to shadow a SLT, you'll find it hard to find someone to take you on. They're already obliged to take on SLT students and you'll find a lot of people will be reluctant to take on people without experience in the area (not that I'm commenting on your personal situation, don't know how much experience you have in the area)

Agree with Litz there, there's enough students in the game taking all spaces available, most SLT's are with a service through the HSE and there's also the pain of Garda Clearance (which could take a few months even if you were to do a 2 week stint volunteering) since you could be working with young vulnerable kids. Best bet is to get onto CAO and go the whole hog

Your best bet would be any of the voluntary agencies (those covering Intellectual Disability services) rather than HSE. Most of the bigger agencies would have a volunteer co-ordinator you could contact, or check with any of the SLT managers directly. You'll still have to wait for Garda clearance to come through but I'd say you're in with a better shot! Might be worth noting though if it's the summer you're thinking of things tend to be a bit all over the place with the schools off, leave etc.
