Are there any benefits of joining the PSNI as a third level graduate?

Everyone goes through the exact same process, regardless of education or qualifications. You fill out an application form, you do an Initial Selection Test, you do an Assessment Centre, you do a Medical, then hopefully you're in.

So whether you have 2 GCSEs to your name, or a First Honours, it makes no difference.

However, if you score exceptionally well in the entrance exams, then you can go for the Rapid Development Scheme, which is aimed at moving bright sparks through the ranks quickly.

am wondering does having a certain type of degree such as IT or engineering help you move faster into the computer or road accident investigations or how does that work in the psni?!

You can select HPDS when you apply, and if you don't but do very well in the entrance tests then they enter you automatically as I understand it.

Generally, 99.9999% of the time you get into a department by waiting until the job is advertised and then applying and going though whatever selection process they have. You then get onto the select list and names are picked off it from the best getting number 1 to the worst getting last place. Obviously there are generally more people applying than there are places. I'm not sure previous qualifications make a difference one way or the other, as far as I'm aware its all based on how you do in the selection process.
