    Hi,
Just need a bit of advice from anyone who knows the mechanics of a car!!
Just about to buy a 2002 vw passat 1.9 tdi from a garage and found out that the oil sump was burst by driving over a rock and leaked all its oil. This is the third time it has happened to this particular car. Just want to know will this cause damage to the engine in the near future?not sure whether to make a deal or not??
    Thanking you.

persoanally I would stay away away from it....

When the sump is burst, if it bad, it drains all the oil from the engine, depending on then how far it was driven, a lot of damage could be done to the engine....

there are a lot of Passats out there.... I wouldnt take the chance....

thank you for your opinion. I no that it was driven a few miles when that happened and I know that the road was covered in oil from where it happened! I was advised not to buy it but wanted a 2nd opinion.
Back to the drawing board for me
    Thank you

If it happened once I'd be wary enough, twice I'd walk away, three times I would run away like Mr Lucifer himself was blowing in me neck...

That model has not been particularly well received, so personally I'd not get one.

The sump being broken is a design flaw obviously, the engine losing it's oil is severely detrimental. However, if the engine had not been driven after the accidents then no damage would have occurred but as you post it was driven a few miles ....
