This annual cycle is on this Saturday, leaving Maam Cross at 11 am.
    There is a 50km or 80km option.

I like to support this charity cycle each year, even though it hasn't been in the media much...yet.
This was a well organized event last year with regular water and food stops throughout. The route is very scenic as it goes from Maam Cross to recess, (Bothar na Scrathóg for the shorter route) Glinsk, Carna, Kilkieran, Screeb

The website doesn't have the route but its on the attached sponsorship card.

Really enjoyed this cycle last year too. The route is really scenic, and the event has a really friendly vibe. People were in no hurry to dash home after they finished, and in fact many met up in Galway afterwards.
    Looking forward to Saturday.

weather forecast is good for saturday.... bring on the hang sandwiches..
    :)

SATURDAY will be mild with highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees and moderate southerly breezes. There'll be some sunny spells in the east, but it will be cloudier further west with outbreaks of rain and drizzle developing in Connacht and west Munster towards evening.

Enjoyed it again this year, especially the last dash into maam cross.

The stops were better this year i.e. there were more of them.
The things that could be improved upon are signage, a better website with detailed map, and more publicity well in advance.

    Any fotas up yet...?

    There were plenty cameras :)

Another great event yesterday. It was striking that lots of people had traveled a distance, with lots of northern and midlands accents out on the road.
We were lucky with the weather again, with just a little headwind to contend with for the middle third.

I do a lot of family holidaying out in Connemara (Ballyconneely to be precise) and while I wouldn't be too keen on cycling around the roads on my own, a charity spin like this sounds great. It really is a great part of the country. I'll pencil this one in for next year.

It was a good spin no doubts. Some nice short climbs - and a bit of a headwind at times to contend with, but the rain stayed off which was good.

Something that could certainly be improved on is the signposting. I know that this cycle really depends on volunteers and it's not easy but having better signs or having someone to direct the cyclists at different junctions would have been of great help.

The scenery is lovely in that part of the country.... and the cailini weren't bad either...!;)

.....makes the wheels and the world go round.:rolleyes:
