Growing up gay (or vampire) on RTE

Just caught a minute of it there, and I have an odd question for anyone else who was watching.

Did the lesbians seem to have fangs?:o

I noticed it on one of them, and then another (I was flicking back and forth), and they seemed to have really prominent incisors. As I was waiting for a news story to come on, I didn't really see much of it, so I could be wrong, did anyone else notice this?

NOTE: I am well aware that lesbian=/=vampire. I was just wondering about the ones on this show.
EDIT: Obviously I know the ones on this show weren't vampires, I was just wondering if they unusually have big incisors or not.

Are you for real? Is this a subtle attempt to associate lesbians with vampires?

No, and I am well aware of how stupid this sounds. :o

Strange question but good programme and fair play to all involved.
If any of them are ever on the boards, I wish them all the best.

From what I could see the lesbians just dressed like emo kids with hoodys of bands that weren't even around when they were born, piercings & horrible long-fringed haircuts. Surely there are other lesbians out there that would be a bit put out by the stereotype in the show?

yeah one had very prominant teeth, but i liked them. different.

anyway, on a side note, the gingers hair was lovely after she got it cut. wanted to say that in the other thread but it got locked. i'll die happy now.

As a child I had very prominent incisors which I had to have filed down. I am told I was a terror for biting other kids when they got on the wrong side of me!!
Married today with 4 kids so I don't know where that leaves your theory and no, I am not a closet lesbian, at least I don't think I am..............................................................

Oh god no, my whole life has been a lie:eek:

Meh, they're teenagers, everyone goes through a dodgy clothes stage when they're young.

they seemed to have really prominent incisors.

Are you sure you don't mean canine teeth? The incisors are the bugs bunny teeth at the middle and right beside the middle.

In many animals the canine is larger in the male, so maybe with lesbians its relate to extra testosterone or something. Cant say ive ever noticed it though

    Didn't notice the incisors.

I did think that they're pretty brave kids considering the backward f*ckwit attitudes a lot of people in this country have towards homosexuality (already one idiot thread started in AH by some troll).

Yup, didn't mean you dude. Your thread just shows an unhealthy obsession with teenage girls teeth. ;)

Personally if that show makes one bigot realise "hey they're people too and it's not their fault for being that way" then I would call it successful.
Some of the stuff that was said on that doc tonight was apalling. I know one of the people shown on the program to see and to be ridiculed in such a way just because of what you are is scandalous.

I watched it and seriously thought "fair play" to both the kids and parents involved. Serious guts ;)

Show was a bit of joke, could they not have found any lads slightly more camp ? Typical media portrayal of gay men, camp queens who like to dress up, have 5+ female mates and be mammys bff. Meh should have know better than to watch it.

    Why was it a joke?

If you think the kid with the Iraqi dad is a queen then you don't really know many real queens.

    I know plenty.

My point is there are other types out there besides the camp guys, the gay community is a lot more diverse. To me just reinforces the stereo typical view of gay men.

    What a f*cking eejit thread.

"Did the lesbian I saw on TV have unusualy large incisors or was it just me?"

    Translated as...

"I'm not homophobic, but, is that carpet muncher a vampire, or am I just drink and posting random stupid thoughts?"

    What next..

"Did that black man I saw on TV have incredibly dark skin, or was his teeth so incredibly white that it offset his sallow complexion so much that I mistook him for a n*****?"

There's PC & there is just being a f*cking nonsense.

But some people just happen to be very similar to the stereotype so do you think they should be shunned by the media?

Well if they had hundreds of teenage gay boys who were willing to come on national television and talk about how hard it's been for them growing up and they concentrated solely on the camp ones then you might have a point.

But somehow I doubt they did.

To me the program showed how difficult it can be for gay teenagers to come out to their friends and family. And if one teenager somewhere in Ireland who thinks they're alone in how they feel sees it and is reassured that maybe their life will be ok then it's a good thing.

So to dismiss it as a joke just because it didn't show all the different types of gay men out there is a bit flippant. It didn't purport to show all facets of gay life, it just told the story of these particular teenagers.

I'm sure they're sorry they didn't meet your high standards but I'd imagine most GLBT support groups would have seen it as a positive program.

I would agree that the lads were quite camp but that is the stereotype for a reason. Fair play to the people who took part in the show, must not have been the easiest show to be a part of

Anyone get mixed up between this and that RTE FAME show?

Also, first thing the 4-5 people in the room at the time said was ''Jesus, is she a vampire?'' so I really don't think its that much of a stretch.

    Fair play,
I came out at 16 but not to my parents and no way I'd have had the balls to go on telly. I dont have a problem with camp guys, they are who they are and in fact if people bother to see past it they might actually get to know a real person.
Great show and a great step forward for young gay people in Ireland.

*in a side note when they asked that black girl about Nigeria and gay pride and she just shrugged and said no you'd get arrested made it really clear how far we've come as a nation.
