Who was the last team to make the top 4 in england when competing in the europa eague that year? Is it a draw back that will make it harder for Spurs/man city, liverpool or everton to make the top 4 next year?

Well it means more games in the season so unless the squad is pretty big, yeah it'll make it tough to concentrate on both competitions.

And given the nature of the league this season, teams will find easy games a lot more difficult as there's a lot more competition this season than there has been in previous seasons. Getting to that 4th spot is extremely tough as there's a lot of teams gunning for it.

I think he's asking is it difficult for teams who are in the Europa League to compete for 4th place too.............. Well that's what I got from it.

As far as I remember, Chelsea were the last team to qualify for the Champions League whilst playing in the Uefa Cup. They came fourth in 2003 ahead of Liverpool. But they were knocked out very early in the Uefa Cup that year to Viking. Everton came 4th in 2005 but I don't think they were in Europe that year.

Uefa Cup/Europa League is a distraction. It also plays havoc with the fixture list. But another issue is that the teams in that competition in the past few tend not to have been good enough to finish fourth. Their squads are too small to cope.

This. Also worth noting that they played the maximum amount of fixtures possible for them that year given the successful FA Cup and League Cup campaigns.

With no European distractions, Everton could have a real go at 4th next season. IF we can start the season reasonably well with a fit squad for a change.
