what happens if you have been signing on for 6 months, you get a job but dont get paid for a month in the new job.

can you claim your dole for the 4 weeks before you get paid ? otherwise how do you pay your rent and bus fares to the new job?

Maybe talk to your community welfare officer and see if they can do anything for you...
Normal social welfare rules dictate that once you start working the payments stop....

You could also try to talk to your bank about getting an overdraft to keep you ticking over until the money comes through?

hmm, its not for me, for a friend. overdraft is completely out of the question, they are only for mugs.

will tell her to talk to the welfare officer, she hasnt got the job but is very worried about money if she does get it

Firstly, good news that your friend has got a job.

Even though they won't get paid until the end of the first month, they are still classed as 'employed' therefore not entitled to social welfare payments IMO.

There are lots of people in a similar situation and I'm confused as to why you consider taking advantage of an overdraft on a very temporary basis (ie one month) "for mugs"??
