A friend of mine played it on Friday and said the greens had been forked and sanded but were still incredibly true and smooth.

They raved about the place all round... and they wouldn't be shy in having a moan normally!

Played it yesterday morning with an awful hangover, don't think there was a bunker I didn't go into! :) Greens are sandy and were a little slower than usual but still in good nick, its fairly open these days with the rough cut down.

To be honest, I think they've destroyed a great golf course there. I always struggled around it, granted, when it was in its former glory, but now you can drive the ball all over the place and still score. It's taken away the one thing Monty wanted when he designed the place: Accuracy over power!

How much can you get out for there? Would be nice to play the two courses in the one day. Have only heard great things about the Monty, a few horror stories too mind!

Ah, I hear ya, but with the Seniors open there in June it should be all grown back up. The whispy grass is begining to grow back up but there's a fair bit of heavy stuff further over and very tough to get out of when grown, which they are trying to thin down, there's a balance between a fair test and an absolute struggle, they're trying to get that balance right now.

tink we are getting it for €55 a head we seen a deal they had in golfers digest a few months.
alot of the lads will be happy to hear the rough is cut back a bit.well prob be off the forward tees so mightnt be as tough as we thought

Pity to hear about the rough, it's what made it such a tough course. If it's cut down then it really opens up pretty much every tee shot, allowing you just to bang drivers all day away from the bunkers. Although prob a more enjoyable round!

I can tell you that the course is in fantastic shape, we had a stand in the tented area during the Seniors Open and I got out to watch some golf and was very impressed with its condition.

I was back down yesterday to take some photos and the rough is just starting to brown out and is quite tall, so that really nice fairway to tall rough contrast will be there quite soon.

A heads up for anyone wanting to play either Carton course and who has an iPhone, we have just published a new Carton House App. It is pretty cool with some nice features.
    1. Built in hole overviews
    2. Flybys
    3. Live directions from your current location
    4. live and 5 day weather
    5. Booking engine
    6. Built in score card
    7. Hotel section
It should be up on the app store in the next week or so, oh and it is free.

    Here is a quick video - http://www.golfgraffix.com/iPhone-App.html

What would be good is if you could get yardages from various points shown on the 'flyby', I'm surprised its not there, or am I missing something?

Its an option but in this case the client wanted a clean view

But we can do it, we are testing building gps into the flyby, so it will play from your distance out. Not sure on rulings yet, as it shows elevations but not in text values.
