Good news from Baghdad

At last a bit of good news from that quarter.

Looks like our boys slotted al-Masri and al-Baghdadi, two of the top terrorists in the area.

Are things on the up there at last?

.Well this is good news. As much as one hates to admit it, the surge initiated by Bush and continued by Obama has been very successful. The major obstacle to peace in Iraq is the civil war between Sunni and Shiite militias - a fact that so many parties seem very keen to avoid talking about. It aloways seems so much easier to blame the US.

Indeed, at last there seems to be some semblance of peace and co-operation in the area which is great to see.

It's a lovely part of the world and maybe now can open itself up to tourism and the like and shed it's nasty image of intolerance and intransigence.

Unfortunately some people won't like this and do their best to stir up old animosities and rancor.

However ,I'm sure all will congratulate the US and Iraqi forces for making a beautiful country more safe.

Nice to see good news for a change.

If by "all" you mean "all bar Liam", then maybe; otherwise no.

Actually (including me) make that at least "all bar 655,001".....

So you don't think the killing of the top two Al Q operatives by Iraqui and US forces in that area is a good thing for the peace and progression of the country?

Since the majority of the insurgency they're fighting in Iraq has been generated by their invasion of that country, their continued presence in it, and their regular collateral bodycount, as well as their other ongoing interference in the region, the ability of "our boys" to "slot" anyone is hardly something to be celebrated in any kind of unreserved way - and frankly your adulatory description of it verges on the nauseating and inappropriate.

If this had been posted in regard to the deaths of Americans, British in the North etc, it would have been closed

Scofflaw, If I could be so bold as to emphasise, I made no reference good or bad to the rights or wrongs of the invasion.
I aplogise for the 'our boys' reference as I merely meant to support those who oppose terrorism, and I take your point that it could be wrongly interpreted.

My point was that the success of an Iraqi and US force in eliminating two top Al Q terrorists is surely a good thing for that region?

I hope that explanation meets with your approval.

I don't think 'generated' is as much the correct word as 'catalysed.'

Saddam kept a lid on it, much like a clamp on a pressure cooker. Once the clamp was removed, the forces already in place acted on their own.

That's a reasonable point, and notwithstanding FlutterinBantam's explanation, I have to view the "our boys" and the use of the term "slotted" as triumphing.

    moderately,
