HELP - ACCA Practising Certificate

    Hi all

    I'm in a bit of a bind. I am ACCA qualified now more than 5 yrs (well FCCA now I guess) and also a qualified tax consiultant. Over the past number of years I have been operating my own tax consultancy business and doing small accounts (maybe 4/5 in a year). I don't have a practising certificate. I now need to get one in place as I am extending the scope of the business to include accounts on a larger scale.

    And so - I need to apply for the practising certificate. how easy is it to complete. I did my training a long time ago but all my training was mainly in the taxation department with little or none in actual accounts. When I went abroad (Jersey) I worked on accounts but the firm I worked for was not an accounting practice. As such I have no ACTUAL experience of accounts work other than the fact that I have been preparing them from scratch for years!

    You need 3 years experience (2 years post qual) with an approved ACCA employer. Going by what you said above it's unlikely you will have or get this experience in the near future.

    You might want to look into getting membership of CPA - you just need to prove 2 or 3 years relevant experience and it doesn't need to be by an approved employer. It's fairly expensive to maintain a practice cert etc so keep that in mind.

    If you have no practising cert, then you should not be doing accounts at all - big or small. The requirements are pretty strict now and you are not supposed to do any "public practise" work without a cert. Getting one is pretty difficult unless you have the necessary experience.
