Good news for Limerick fight fans - indeed supporters of boxing throughout Ireland - is that Katie Taylor has been added to the 15 May Yanjing fight bill in Limerick. Here is what promoter Brian Peters has to say on the subject:

Mike, this report is also being shown at Eastside Boxing. Good exposure for Katie.

I'm glad that this arrangement has been made. I know some are against these pro-am shows but Taylor's ability and talent is something she deserves to be able to showcase in front of a national audience and the big pro cards(and the national finals) are the only way that's really possible.

She does wonders for the sports reputation in this country and is one of the biggest female role models in Irish sport. it's only right she gets opportunities like this.
Now hopefully she gets matched nice and tough, and gets a good nights work just like at the O2 last year.

    I entirely agree Bren....

As an aside I see that TWO top Chinese Women PROS (one a former World PRO champ) have had their status revised and are back as AMATEURS for 2012 Games. (Neither is in KT's weight class).Am surprised that that was 'allowed'...

I can but agree, "Big Ears" .... As I said a few weeks back, I do have some doubts about mixing top Mens Pros+ Amateurs on this type of card but I do believe that an exception should be made for the women like Katie and also Sinead Kavanagh because the only way that womens boxing will progress in Ireland is if the public can see them on the TV as well as on shows like the Brian Peters pro-ams. And if they do not get that type of exposure then what hope is there of having future champs like KT ... Good decision by IABA on this occasion after their February refusal to agree to a similar request then.... Mike
