1.6 is a better bet than the 1.4 in real life driving.

unusual engine to have in the Octavia, is it an import, and check if it has the 1.6 FSI engine.

The official figures for the 1.6 FSI are without brackets, 1.4 is in brackets beside them for comparison

    CO2 emissions 158 g/km (167 g/km)
Fuel consumption (urban) 32.5 mpg (29.4 mpg)
Fuel consumption (extra urban) 52.3 mpg (50.4 mpg)
Fuel consumption (combined) 42.8 mpg (40.4)
    0 - 62 mph 11.2 seconds (14.2 seconds)
Top speed 123 mph (107 mph)
Engine power 115 bhp (80 bhp)
    Engine torque 114 lbs/ft (97 lbs/ft)

If it's the FSI it's decent enough. The 1.6 8 valve likes a drink though. They absolutely guzzle it around town - like a much bigger engine to be honest - and also above 115-120kph due to the gearing.

I've done Dublin to Cork with that engine and gearbox combo and have seen a lot less than 30 mpg at a steady ish 140k cruise. But say Galway to Cork at a lower speed and I'll see 40-45 easily.

I'd just buy a diesel to be honest. Gearboxes on the 1.6 are weak too

Thanks guys , unfortunately diesel option doesnt appear to be in my budget. So guess I should give it a skip?

Like said it's better than a 1.4, and the 8 valve is very relaible if looked after. It's just very thirsty for what it is imo. Unless it's the FSi which is more powerful and more fuel efficient
