VW Golf Factory Fitted Alarm - How does one tell?

    Hi,

I bought a new VW Golf (Mark V) at the end of 2008. At the time I ordered a factory fitted alarm, but it occurred to me recently that it's never gone off and that got me wondering if it was actually fitted at all. :-) There's no obvious tell tale signs.

There's a nice flashing led on the driver's door, but that could be to indicate the deadlocks are active. There's no visible sensors in the cabin or sounder under the bonnet.

So anyone got a factory fitted VW alarm and if so, what should I look for to see that it's fitted? I'd prefer not to put a brick through the window to test it. :-)

Leave window open, activate alarm and lean in - it should go off.

Failing that, leave someone in the car and activate the alarm, when they move it'll whoop away.

Ya, broken glass is a bugger to get out. Maybe try dancing on the bonnet instead?;)

It should be in the handbook about setting it. Might require a second press of lock button or something

I know in the MK4 the motion sensors are hidden in the rear passenger ceiling handles, you can easily see them if looking for them! There's also a button on the drivers side door pillar at the bottom to turn the interior sensors off if you're leaving a dog or whatever in the car. Not sure what changes were made for the MK5 sorry!

I recently bought Golf Mk5 and wondering about this aswell becasue I'm having trouble with the speaker that makes the noise for leaving the lights on, indicators, seatbelts etc. as its not working and was worried that this speaker is also the alarm.

I'll try the suggest you made when I go home but are you saying that there are motion sensors inside the car that'll set the alarm off it detects a person reaching/movig inside the car? I did not know this

Sit in the car and turn on the alarm.

Done this a few times by accident when i ran into the shops leaving my missus in the car.

the sensor disable buttons are on the drivers side pillar between the front and back doors I think

Thanks. I had a quick look and the button is there alright. Now to dig out the manual for a look. The sensors are well hidden - can't find them.

try locking car, activate alarm and leave the rear boot open. Then close it, it should activate alarm. Another trick which worked for me is to lock the car and leave the drivers door window open. Then open the drivers door handle on the inside. The alarm should go off.

I think they might be in the panel with the reading lights.

Does the Golf have a standard key or is it like the Passat one? If it's a normal key, then just lock it with the remote and unlock it with the key in the door, that'll set it off. Or as suggested, lock yourself in and move. Sometimes alarms can take a few seconds to activate, might be 10 seconds or so after locking it before the sensors will set the alarm off to movement.

I found them. They're actually on the ceiling above the passenger side pillar, no where near where I had originally looked. So it looks like the car is fully kitted out with the alarm after all.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
