Cynical governance

The Celtic tiger days are gone, that's a fact. So why are we still crippled under the weight of the cynical governance it gave rise to?

There must be hundreds of bye-laws and rules which were tolerated then and are simply out of date or can be viewed as cynical now. For example, I receive a notice when my tax is up or when my insurance premium is due, yet, because they wont spend the price of a stamp, the NCT folks won't send out a notice. I dont know about you, but I think that's a remnant of the cynicism of that time and the rules must be changed to assist the plain folks comply with the law.

Don't start me on the Family Law divorce act 1996 as that Act is riddled with amendments which are now inequities related to the Celtic Tiger and bear no relation to these more frugal times. In my eyes, you're diviorced from your partner and once the division of assets is complete, that's that. As far as that act states, either party can return to court to claim top ups up till death. Are we the only country in the EU to allow that??

Feel free to post your examples, maybe someone will read and take note.

How is the NCT thing cynical ?
Is it that you think they are trying to catch you out and make money off you ?

Sigh - there's always one, but normally don't make an appearance until the 3rd or 4th post but you're welcome non-the-less

I agree with op. It's standard practice when certain things are nearing their natural annual life. Motor tax, insurance or various sorts [not just auto vehicles], magazine subscriptions, etc.

NCT seem to think that reminders aren't needed.Personally, I don't look at my NCT disk every day to see if it's nearing expiration.

I got a reminder for mine. So did my girlfriend. When did they stop doing them?

I didn't get one for my last NCT [last August]. I rang up because I just happen to notice I had a few weeks left. They said that they aren't sending out notices anymore. Not sure if it's a permanent thing. But one of the reasons was because so many people panicked over the past 12 months and all signed up for NCT en masse with sever backlog.
