Screen resolution changes when connected to projector

I have the resolution on my HP Mini set at 1024 X 600. When I connect it to a projector, the screen on the laptop changes so that the text is stretched. It rearranges the icons on my desktop and is quite annoying. How do I stop the screen from changing?

You laptop checks the resolution of the projector and tries to fit to it. Do you keep the local display and also drive the projector? You can't have two different resolutions at the same time. You can just manually adjust the res back to the one you want..
